　Chinese Wind Music: Eagle’s Love
This album features the Huaxia Chinese Orchestra conducted by Guan Naizhong, with solo performances by renowned *dizi* (bamboo flute) masters Zhang Weiliang, Yi Jiayi, and Zhang Jian.
Hugo Productions has recently released this recording of Chinese concertos performed by the Huaxia Chinese Orchestra under Guan Naizhong’s baton; the sound quality is truly superb. This excellence stems from Guan’s exceptional mastery of Chinese music—his ability to unify the ensemble, his rich expressiveness, his deep understanding of Chinese poetic sensibilities, and his flair for improvisation. Complementing this is the recording expertise of “Old Yi,” whose mastery of microphone placement effortlessly captures the atmosphere of a live performance while vividly highlighting the unique character and timbre of the solo instruments. In the new work *Love of the Eagle*, the full ensemble creates a vast, expansive soundscape evoking a boundless sky where eagles soar freely. The *dizi* solo—performed by Zhang Weiliang—rings out with crystalline clarity and agility, mimicking the eagle’s free flight. The recording captures astonishing technical feats, including rapid single, double, and triple tonguing, as well as effortless, sweeping octave leaps—dashing on the ascent and fluid on the descent. The flute’s sharp, piercing tone, rich with authentic bamboo resonance, perfectly embodies the eagle’s spirit of freedom, magnanimity, resilience, and majesty. It weaves seamlessly with the orchestra, creating a dynamic interplay of rhythms that remains distinct and well-structured. Guan’s conducting demonstrates a masterful command of pacing and dynamics; his use of “negative space” and a relaxed orchestral backdrop to frame the *dizi* solo creates a truly distinctive musical style.
